Description

This workshop is aimed at postdocs who consider an academic career a serious professional option. Participants will have the opportunity to conduct a comprehensive individual assessment to determine their development potential and plan their future academic career from their current position. The workshop is based on the triadic career counselling model. It takes into account not only academic achievements but also personal aspects such as individual preferences, motiva-tional factors, and the specific circumstances of participants' respective academic fields.

Focal points
•    Academic career scenarios and career development on an international scale: Frame conditions, facts and figures, possible career paths, qualification requirements, explicit and implicit standards in different disciplinary cultures
•    Qualitative and quantitative analysis of one’s profile and development of individual goals
•    Possible career strategies on the path towards a professorship: e.g. becoming visible: how to develop and communicate a distinct research profile; building and maintaining networks; keeping the balance: combining academic career and private life

Workshop structure
To facilitate a focused discussion during the workshop, a two-phase approach is applied:

Preparation Phase
Two weeks before the workshop, you will receive access to a digital course tailored for your group. The course offers thematic modules providing:
• Detailed information on academic career paths and their structural conditions, including international perspectives.
• Data and insights on gender and diversity issues in academia.
• Tools for self-assessment of skills, capabilities, and qualifications to establish a foundation for career planning.

Additionally, you will receive a short questionnaire to indicate the topics and questions you wish to prioritize during the workshop. This allows me to prepare specifically for your needs.

Workshop Phase
During the workshop, participants will build on their reflections from the preparation phase. They will discuss different career strategies, identify realistic goals for their academic career development and translate these into specific strategies and action steps.
