Research takes place in many different ways at different locations in Germany. In addition to the universities, the German science system has a large number of institutions and organisations where research and development take place. This offers early career researchers a wide range of different working locations and qualification paths. The lecture will present an overview of the research landscape in Germany and the characteristics and functions of the various types of in-stitutions. The main focus of the presentation, however, will be on the various career opportunities and programs at the institutions.
